It had been a long standing
aspiration of the people of this area that Kokrajhar College
should be upgraded to a government college for the greater
interest of the people of Lower Assam. The creation of
Bodoland Territorial Council in 2003 served like a light at
the end of a tunnel for the teachers, guardians and
students. The chief of Bodoland Territorial Council
recommended the case of our college to Dispur, Assam for
converting it into a government college. As a result, the
Govt. of Assam took over the college on 22 August 2006
through a gazette notification.
With the government takeover,
there have been major changes in the college. All the
buildings of the class room have become unsafe owing to the
expiry of life. Till now we have been able to construct new
blocks with multistoried provisions. There are many more
buildings to be constructed. A new hostel building for girls
is also coming up.
The college is in a state of
transition. What with the set criteria of NAAC and the
necessity of raising the quality of education in the context
of the piercely competitive world, the teachers and
authority engaged in several activities which, in normal
condition, could have been avoided and the energy
concentrated in its respective work. Once this transitions
period gone, we could expect a better made confident
Kokrajhar Govt. College. We are looking forward to that time
when people’s aspirations might be fulfilled.
At
this point of time we need co-operation from all corners
the guardians, students, well wishers and, above all, the
commitment of the government.
